How to pick the right AI agent from the Slack App Marketplace

Search for 'AI' in the Slack App Marketplace and you'll find dozens of results. They all promise to save time and automate work. But the implementations range from 'ChatGPT with a Slack interface' to 'fully connected AI that can manage your ad campaigns.' The evaluation criteria matter.
The three categories of AI apps in Slack
Category 1: AI chat interfaces
These are chat clients for GPT or Claude that live in Slack. You can ask them questions, have them write content, explain concepts. They're useful for general knowledge work, but they don't know anything about your specific business unless you tell them.
